  1. Needs refinement Review by BigHat
    Rating

This system has promise but also many flaws in it's current implementation. These are:
    1. Grip activation is poorly located and thus forces way too much attention on the grip than it should. How can you get it so right on pistol grips and so screwed up on this AR grip.
    2. The grip itself is marginal in terms of comfort during use, independent of the laser/light.
    3. Mine is fairly new and possibly I'm making a mistake, but there seems to be a serious delay in activation do to a sleep mode of some sort. If you need the laser and light in a home defense scenario, you typically need it NOW.
    4. My master switch on the grip seems to be always on no matter the position. Seems clear in the instruction manual that the full aft position should disable the system. It does not on my unit.
    5. I would await the Gen 2 version. (Posted on 2/16/17)

  2. Deep sleep mode after 30 days Review by Carl
    Rating

Unfortunately, the sleep mode isn't documented in any of the product specs. I think the 30-day power-off is the major drawback of the system. It requires simultaneously pressing buttons on both the grip and the light to awaken. This is a major downside for weapons that may not be frequently touched. It results in inconsistent performance: only press the grip button if it's been less than 30 days, but also press light button if it's been more than 30 days. This is not ideal in a high stress situation.

More details on the sleep modes:

Sleep mode: Sleep mode occurs after 24 hours of inactivity. The LinQ light and laser will still power on with a press of the instinctive activation button, but with a 200ms delay.

Deep Sleep Mode: After about a month of inactivity, the user will need to simultaneously press control buttons on both the pistol grip and forward module to wake up the LinQ.

  3. Very nice overall! Will buy another. Review by Kevin R.
    Rating

Overall, a very nice product and I would like to buy a second unit. I do have some concerns and suggestions for improvements.

First, the activation button is located on the front of the grip right below the trigger and is essentially activated by the middle finger, though it's really designed to activate by squeezing your entire hand on the grip. There is no tactical feel to the button and I think this is by design. Crimson Trace calls this Instinctive Activation, and it works quite well and reliably, but I would still prefer to feel a tactile switch under my finger.

The main concern I have is squeezing your hand grip instinctively tempts you to also squeeze your trigger finger. This is a training issue, but it's still there, especially under stress. Squeezing the grip can also affect aim. I own a different (discontinued) light-only product that utilizes your free thumb to depress tactile-click buttons on the side of a modified Hogue grip. I like this arrangement better, although it is not ambidextrous.

The Crimson Trace grip is hard plastic in feel and definitely isn't as nice as a Hogue or other aftermarket grips. This isn't a deal killer for me, but noticeable. Changing modes (light only, laser only, light/laser, strobing light with solid laser) is accomplished by depressing a small recessed button the side of the grip (there's one on each side so Lefties can rejoice). But the button is too small and recessed to do it with your grip hand, thus you'll need to lower your weapon and use your support hand. Further, you have to do this while SIMULTANEOUSLY depressing the Instinctive Activation button with your grip hand. In other words, it requires both hands and lowering your weapon to change modes. So changing modes really isn't something you can do on the fly; and you can't do it discreetly either because the light and laser turn on as you select the mode you want.

The unit seems well built. Not sure if it's waterproof, but the battery compartments appear to be sealed as well as the buttons, so it appears to at least be rugged enough to withstand wet weather and splashes.

One other thing: there is a very small (a few milliseconds) delay between pressing the button and the light/laser activating. This delay is very small and very acceptable, but it is perceptible. It's enough that you can't use the button to manually "strobe" the light at a very high rate. In comparison, my other radio controlled light has a very long activation delay (maybe 1/4 to 1/2 a second) which I feel is borderline unacceptable. Crimson Trace did a good job with their radio here.

I'm very happy with this unit and would like to own another. (Posted on 12/1/16)

  4. Excellent Product, but AR-15s with Suppressors will need a Riser Mount for the LiNQ Module Review by Clay
    Rating

I just got my LiNQ last week. Let me start by saying both the Grip and the Module are very easy to install and operate, and the System worked flawlessly right out of the box. I am very impressed with the System, and I would definitely recommend it.

**NOTE: THE REMAINDER OF THIS REVIEW ONLY APPLIES TO PEOPLE WHO PLAN TO ATTACH THE LINQ SYSTEM TO A SUPPRESSED AR-15**

The only problem I am experiencing relates to the use of the LiNQ System with the specific set-up of my AR-15. Specifically, the light from the LiNQ Module not having enough clearance to shine unobstructed beneath my Suppressor and reflecting off of the Suppressor.

I love the LiNQ System and I do not view this as a flaw in the System, but it is something that others with Suppressors should take into consideration.

The problem is caused by the fact that the LiNQ Module (attached to the underneath part of the handguard rail at the forward-most position) is so slim, that the flashlight does not have enough clearance to shine below my Suppressor. In other words, when I turn on the flashlight, a large portion of the light is blocked by (reflected off of) my suppressor, which creates two problems for me: (1) first, it illuminates me with the backsplash light; and (2) second, it creates a giant suppressor-shaped shadow in my field of vision.

My hope is that this issue can be resolved by installing a Riser Mount to the underneath portion of the handguard rail, which will create another 1/2" (or 1" if the 1/2" Riser isn't enough) of clearance for the light to shine without reflecting off of the Suppressor.

I ordered a Yankee Hill Machine 5" Rail Extension Riser 0.5" Picatinny Mount (YHM-9474), which will allow me to mount the LiNQ Module approximately 3" further forward (closer to the muzzle) and will create 1/2" more clearance below my Suppressor.

I think adding the Riser Mount will solve the problem with the light not having enough clearance to get underneath my Suppressor, but I'm a little concerned about how much that will throw off the accuracy of the Laser. Given the fact that the laser is sighted in at the factory at 50' (16.67yds), that is a fairly steep angle already. By moving the module another 1/2" to 1" below the barrel, I am concerned that the adjustment necessary to sight-in the laser at 50' will make the angle so steep that it will be useless beyond roughly 60' (20yds).

I guess I'll find out when the Mount gets here ;) (Posted on 11/20/16)

  5. Cutting edge Review by Zach

I was looking to buy an ar15 and in the process of looking I picked up a rifle with this combo on it and loved it. The lasor is strong and easy to adjust. The light is very bright and holds a good beam. This is great for day and night shooting as well as home defense.

  6. Best AR targeting system Review by Shackley
    Rating

I have used many laser targeting systems in my career the LiNQ system is one of the most innovative I have ever used. it has the right balance of tech verses functionality the grip activation placement is brilliant. it allows you to only activate the laser or light when you are ready not to compromise your position. I plan to purchase more of these unites in the future. Thank you Crimson Trace for being so innovative you guys Rock... (Posted on 10/25/16)

  7. Perfect Laser/light, Pistol grip has problems Review by Sovereign
    Rating

The Green laser and 300 lumen white light are amazing. Day or night, the combo is perfectly effective. On the back of the laser/light housing is a soft rubber button that is easy to turn the combo on or off without having to use the pistol grip activation.

The problem is simple. The activation on the pistol grip is not that easy to keep on. I found myself focusing too much on keeping the button depressed than on my trigger control. No good. I believe there is a solution to this issue. Instead of the activation being on the front of the pistol grip, why not put it on the back of the grip like a grip safety. No matter how you put your hand on the pistol grip, you will easily be activating the unit. Problem solved. (obviously, the pistol grip safety would not actually have a safety in it, just a way to trigger the linq wireless activation.)

I say, keep the linq pistol grip in the package and just use the laser/light combo. This way you can put it on ANY rifle that has a picatinny rail and not be stuck with only an AR style rifle. I have no issue simply pressing the button on the back to activate the light/laser combo.

I want to stress that the laser/light combo is amazing, and I would be happy if Crimson Trace would just sell the Linq laser/light by itself with no pistol grip for 100 less than the whole package is now.

To be clear, I gave 3 stars, because half of the unit has a serious issue. I give the light/laser combo by itself 5 STARS. (Posted on 10/18/16)

  8. LiNQ an Excellent New Product from CTC Review by LaVista Bill
    Rating

I had an opportunity to try at the LiNQ back in August and did a good deal of shooting with it in daylight, night and even inside a small cave set up as a range. The laser was easy to see in all environmental conditions and the 300 Lumen LED light really put out a strong beam. The instinctive activation is a no-brainer and the mode selection was easy and positive. If you are looking for a laser or tactical light for an AR platform, why not have both in the same unit...get the LiNQ! (Posted on 10/14/16)
