Supreme Court Rules Big In Support Of Gun Owners

Washingon, DC — June 26, 2008:    The Supreme Court of the United States of America ruled in favor of gun owners today, declaring that individuals have a constitutional right to keep a loaded handgun in their home for personal defense.

The Court's 5-4 decision overturned DC's handgun ban and trigger-lock requirements, allowing plaintiff Dick Heller to own & possess a handgun for personal protection in his own home.  The decision at long last declared that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms.  This was a huge step since prior to the decision many, including the ACLU, interpreted the Second Amendment to mean a collective right allowing citizens to possess firearms only for use in militias or military service, even though that point had never been settled by the high court.

While many contentious details of firearm ownership were left for subsequent review, the majority opinion in the case outlined a very clear right to armed personal defense - something Crimson Trace has long been a strong supporter of.

"Crimson Trace and its employees applaud the decision by the Supreme Court to rule in favor of the 2nd Amendment’s basic right to keep and bear arms."
